New Bedford resident Jermaine Tirado, 38, was arrested Thursday morning on Feb. 29 following an investigation into an incident in which Tirado allegedly fired a gun in a South Dartmouth neighborhood. Tirado is being held without bail for 120 days.

Detectives of the Dartmouth Police Department searched Tirado’s home and vehicle where they discovered a drug suspected to be cocaine, ammunition and a handgun.

Tirado faces several charges that include firing a gun within 500 feet of a building, assault with a dangerous weapon, possessing a firearm without a license, and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.

“In a society currently inundated with violence and illegal drug activity, this arrest is the perfect example of this department’s commitment to removing guns, illegal drugs, and dangerous individuals, such as Tirado, from the streets,” said Dartmouth Chief of Police Brian Levesque.
