An injury earlier this year sidelined Dartmouth senior captain Nate Ellis for most of the rest of the season, but he refused to sit on the bench for the final game of his high school career.

“It was probably the hardest news I’ve heard,” said Ellis about the injury after the Indians 14-0 win against Fairhaven on Thanksgiving. “But the only thing I could do was be there for my team and just support them.”

On Thursday morning, he did more than that and took to the field for a few final plays after the Indians had locked up the win at Fairhaven High School.

Head Coach Rick White said the move required approval from Ellis’ doctors. White said he was glad to see Ellis take a few snaps.

“It was great to see him back on the field,” said White.

The Indians scored a touchdown in the first quarter before a scoreless second quarter. The second touchdown came courtesy of senior Dane Ashton in the third quarter who caught a pass from quarterback Nolan Ellis, Nate’s younger brother.

One of the hardest working players on the field Thursday was senior running back Luke Tisdelle who ran for 134 yards. Tisdelle credited his offensive line for creating space.

“They open up the holes and I just run through them,” said Tisdelle. “It’s mostly them doing all the work.”

The win left Dartmouth with a 5-5 record for the season. Dartmouth did make the playoffs and earned a 21-7 win over Nauset in the opening round of the Div. 4 South playoffs. The team couldn’t keep the momentum going, however, and fell 27-0 to Hopkinton in the semi-finals on Nov. 3.
