Southcoast Health’s Charlton Memorial Hospital earns honor as a top nurse employer in Massachusetts

FALL RIVER, Mass. — Southcoast Health announced today that Nurse.org, the web’s leading career site for nurses, has recognized Charlton Memorial Hospital as one of the best hospitals for nurses to work for in Massachusetts.

Over the past two years, Nurse.org has collected more than 521 reviews by nurses at 68 Massachusetts hospitals about their workplace satisfaction. The data from the reviews revealed that Charlton Memorial Hospital has one of the highest levels of job satisfaction among its nurses.

Reviewers cited supportive management, well-educated staff, and schedule flexibility as the basis for the 3.9 star rating with 93 percent of the nurses surveyed recommending the hospital as an employer.

Nurse.org’s Product Manager, Phillip Lee, congratulated Charlton Memorial Hospital on this achievement saying, “We’re excited to be able to recognize Charlton for creating an excellent work environment for nurses. The nurses we have surveyed speak highly about their experience and recommend it to their colleagues.”

Nurse.org provides a safe platform on which nurses leave honest workplace reviews. Completely anonymous, nurses share their opinions about culture, nurse-to-patient ratios, and other matters important to them.

Making the list of top hospitals shows the facility is focused on nurse satisfaction. Nurse recruitment — a challenge today — becomes easier when the hospital can demonstrate its commitment to nurses by pointing to an unbiased source.

“This recognition from Nurse.org is a validation that Southcoast Health is doing the right things to support our nursing staff in our three hospitals, our VNA and the Southcoast Physicians Group,” said Tim Eixenberger, Chief Nursing Officer at Southcoast Health. “We have a great team of nurses and we provide them with the right amount of staff, leadership, training, equipment, supplies, safety and time to be the best in their profession. For nurses, it is knowing that they were able to provide the highest quality care to their patients that matters the most. We are grateful for the nurses who care for our community at Southcoast Health.”

Eixenberger added, “this award is a reflection of not only the quality of Charlton's work environment but also the proactive nature and pride of the nursing staff. I hear all the time that the nursing staffs at St. Luke’s and Tobey, as well as in our VNA and the Southcoast Physicians Group, feel the same as their Charlton counterparts, and so I encourage them to complete the survey on Nurse.org., so that all of Southcoast Health is fully represented in the top 10 in the Commonwealth.”
