A 21-year-old student is in the hospital after being involved in a car crash on the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth campus on May 4, according to university officials.

The crash occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on the access road behind the campus's freshman dorms.

Responding officers determined a car driven by a commuter student had collided with a tree and then rolled over. The commuter student, the only person in the car, was found conscious at the scene.

The student was airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital where their condition remains unclear.

The accident is currently under investigation by university police.
