Over 400 bowlers joined My Brother’s Keeper for its third annual “Strikes for Hope” fundraiser at New Bedford’s Wonderbowl on Sunday, March 10.

My Brother’s Keeper is a Christian nonprofit with locations in Easton and Dartmouth that delivers furniture, food, and Christmas assistance to local families, free of charge and without prerequisites.

Paul Key, chief development officer, said, “While we love hosting events like this to bring the community of My Brother’s Keeper together, we also do it to support our work. The fact of the matter is more and more local families are reaching out to us for assistance. Last year, we made more than 18,000 deliveries, serving more than 62,000 children and adults in Southeastern Massachusetts.”

According to the organization, a recent report from Project Bread revealed that 19.5% of all households in Massachusetts reported food insecurity last fall. My Brother’s Keeper volunteers and staff are out on the road five days a week delivering a weeks’ worth of healthy groceries and much-needed household furniture to local families. 

Altogether, this event raised over $70,000 in support of the charity’s work on the South Coast. The organization thanks its sponsors for the success: John & Janine Higgins, Refrigerated Structures of New England, and the Lank Family. Additionally, the organization said it is appreciative of the many volunteers who helped out. Special thanks to Bishop Stang High School, Bristol County Savings Bank, and Southcoast Health for giving their time.
