Celebrating the Earth with recycling and planting at the library

Apr 17, 2024

Dartmouth Public Library kicked off school vacation week with Earth Day activities for kids at both branches Tuesday, April 16.

Children’s Librarian Christie Phillips said she wanted to provide multiple options, including seed planting, recycled arts and crafts and some carnival games, in order to involve kids of all ages and interests.

Evangeline Simoes, 11, attended the event at the Southworth branch with her mom, Shannon Simoes, who is a member of the Friends of the Dartmouth Library Board.

Shannon said her daughter loves to be involved with the library and participating in events, even wearing her “Hoot Don’t Pollute” shirt in the spirit of the Earth Day activities.

Using recycled materials, Evangeline crafted herself a toy horse, stating she already has Woody, Jessie and Bullseye from “Toy Story” waiting at home for it.

Shannon said they plan to attend the rest of the week’s activities at the library, adding with the playground right next door, “It’s a really nice place to come.”
