Indians softball wins rematch against Fairhaven

Apr 17, 2024

The Dartmouth Indians girls varsity softball team defeated the Fairhaven High School Blue Devils 7-1 at an away game on Monday, April 15. Having also defeated Fairhaven earlier this month, this marks the second win for the Indians, which currently stand at 2-4 this season.

With Megan Arruda representing the Indians on the pitching mound, the Blue Devils only scored once in the fourth inning.

The Indians widened the margin at the top of the seventh inning when they scored four runs — bringing the game to a close and squashing the Blue Devils’ chances for a comeback. Paige Martins was the top earner for the Indians, making it to home plate in the third and final innings.

“We made the outs when we needed to,” said Indians Head Coach Beth Arguin. “Megan did an awesome job on the mound today for us. She definitely kept us in the game today. I have to give a lot of credit to her.”

The Indians’ victory comes despite missing four players who were out of town on vacation.

“We definitely cleaned up our performance and I think we worked well together,” said Arruda, who scored the first run of the game in the first inning. “I hope we keep this energy up for the rest of the season.”

Arruda is one of seven players graduating this year, Arguin said. Losing so many players makes her a little nervous for next year, she said.

“It’s gonna be starting over,” she added.
