Playoff update: First-round losses for boys basketball, hockey

Mar 4, 2024

After all three Dartmouth winter team sports earned themselves a spot in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association tournaments, only the girls basketball team remains

Boys basketball capped off its steady 10-10 regular season with a tough loss to Shepherd Hill Regional High School, 54-57. But that doesn’t mean the season didn’t have its high points: senior and captain Hunter Matteson smashed through the school’s all-time career scoring record, finishing with a total of 1,477 points across his four years at the school.

Boys hockey ended a positive 12-8 regular season with a close 1-2 loss against one of the best teams in the state, Newburyport High School.

That just leaves Dartmouth’s girls basketball team, which entered the Sweet 16 on Friday after handily defeating Shepherd Hill Regional High School 76-45. They will next battle Whitman-Hanson Regional High School on March 5 at 6 p.m., again on Dartmouth’s home turf.

Lastly, the sole remaining athlete on Dartmouth’s indoor track teams, Tyler Medeiros, beat his own 1000 meter record for the fourth time on Saturday in the New England-wide championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston. Tyler will next make his way to the New Balance Nationals on March 10, again at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
