The rehab of the Boys & Girls Club of Wareham gymnasium floor forced the 4th Saturday Contra Dance by Wareham Dances to cancel its scheduled event. Wareham Dances is a fund raising activity run by Cultural Connection, Inc. of Greater Wareham whose purpose is to support its own activities and other cultural based nonprofits whenever possible.

TO that end, volunteers from Cultural Connection spent every day from Saturday, June 17th to midnight Friday, June 23rd, sanding, sealing, cleaning and polyurethaning (water based) the the Boys & Girls Club gymnasium floor. 4th Saturday Contra Dance Division President, Lola Mello dedicated her entire week vacation from her job to complete the task. Owner/Operator, Eric Guillory of Cape Cod Collectibles on Rt. 28 spent 6 entire days on drum sander and sealer duty. Others who spent a two or more days sanding and on other duties were, Eric Holzworth, Tom Boll and Paul Ciccotelli; each gave up their Father's Day as well. Many hours were donated the volunteers and members of Cultural Connection, Inc., Nancy Connelly, Amanda Cobb, Sharon Boyer, Patricia Ciccotelli, Harvest Ciccotelli and Caty Bryant. All these volunteers deserve thanks from the community. The children of the Boys & Girls Club have a beautifully rehabbed floor on which to play and take dancing lessons and the Contra Dancers have a smooth floor on which to to dance.

The over 130 year old floor revealed it own story with each successive course of sanding showing, cupping, pitting, gouging, lacquer-over-oil-over-lacquer, building settlement, you name it. It's all over now, ready for the boys and girls on Monday morning. Much of the funding came from local businesses and some private donations but the funds haven't covered the whole project. Donations are appreciated and can still be put towards this floor rehab project at www.culturalconnecting.org|DONATE.
